Derek Hough: Dancing With Footloose

Derek Hough could be adding movie star to his resume.

The Dancing With the Stars pro confirms that he could be waltzing into the upcoming Footloose remake.

"I haven't auditioned, but I've met with the people," Hough told me yesterday.

As I've reported, Chace Crawford is the leading contender to star as Ren, the small-town dancing rebel played in the movie by Kevin Bacon.

Hough declined to say if he's up for Ren, but he certainly knows the part...

Mr. Hough originated the guy in the 2006 West End production of Footloose the Musical.

"Footloose is definitely really close to me," he said. "I would love to be a part of something like that."

Funny enough, Hough's sister, Julianne, is said to be a leading candidate to play Ren's love interest.

There are rumors that Extra is going to break news tomorrow about one of the DWTS competitors winning a role in Footloose, which I posted at Pure Dancing with the Stars. In Part two of the interview below, he talks about Footloose in terms of himself and Julianne.

I have been SO incredibly busy with DWTS and BHB, but I wanted to drop you guys a quick note to thank you for your never ending support of Lil Kim and I on DWTS, as well as your support of Ballas Hough Band. It means more thatn you will ever know.

Thanks also for all of your kind emails and letters... I dont have time to resspond personally, but want to send thanks and my appreciation to you all...

Ok, back to rehearsals, then a video shoot!! (more info to come soon about this!!)

Los Angeles, CA (April 16, 2009) – Singer-songwriter Kate Voegele and Dancing With The Stars’ Derek Hough will co-star in the music video for Voegele’s new lead single, “99 Times.” The clip will be shot in Los Angeles with director Frank Borin (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Duran Duran, Eminem).

Hough is a professional dancer on the hit ABC-TV series Dancing With The Stars and co-lead vocalist for Hollywood Records quintet Ballas Hough Band. Hough and the band recently released their debut album, BHB, and the current season of Dancing With The Stars sees Hough, the show’s reigning champ, teamed with Grammy Award-winning rapper Lil’ Kim.

“99 Times” appears on Voegele’s new album, A Fine Mess (MySpace/DGC/Interscope), which was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Mike Elizondo (Rihanna, Maroon 5, Pink) and arrives in stores on May 19th.
